New York Light Energy provides significant energy savings to small and mid-sized businesses, at absolutely no up-front cost to you. We accomplish this by installing a solar energy generation system (PV solar panels), which we own and maintain, on your building. You only pay for the energy it generates at a cost much lower than you are paying for your electricity now, or in the future.

To begin, we analyze at least three months of your utility bills and determine what your current energy costs are. Then we offer you a long term contract to buy electricity we generate for you at a fixed price – less than you are paying now. You save money, control costs, and know what your energy costs will be.

In actuality, all business owners are already paying for part of this service via the Renewable Portfolio Standard fee – and amount added to you electric bills to support the installation of the type of solar systems we will be installing for you. You are taking advantage of the system you are already paying for! 

A Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) is a New York policy that seeks to increase the proportion of renewable electricity used by retail customers. New York has adopted an aggressive goal of obtaining 30 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2015 (you may have heard this referred to as 30x15).

As your energy provider, New York Light Energy acts as the project coordinator, arranging the financing, design, permitting, and construction of a solar energy generation system on your roof. We buy the photovoltaic (PV) panels, pay for the installation, maintenance, and handle all the details. All you need to do is agree to buy the energy we produce.

Typically, this process takes three to six months.

The reason we use Solar panels to generate energy is that they are ideal for this purpose. Not only do they produce guaranteed energy for 20 to 30 years, they produce it when you need it most; in the daytime when electricity can be most expensive. This can significantly reduce Demand Charges, described elsewhere on this website. With a rooftop solar array professionally designed and installed by NY Light Energy, a business owner can actualize substantial savings. 

Can we generate enough to handle all your energy needs?

Typically no. If our system generates 50 kWh (kilowatt hours) and your business requires 200 kWh, you’ll buy 150 kWh from your current provider and 50 kWh for us at a much lower cost. Your savings are guaranteed.

If, however, your business does not utilize the full 50 kWh hours available from the soar system, the excess energy is automatically sold back to the utility through a ‘net metering’ agreement.
